Kids, unplugged.

Molding children’s minds and lives

Being a kid can be bewildering. And wild. Exhilarating and exhausting. Happy, sad, frustrating and wonderful. Often within a span of 5 minutes. How to sort all that out? In a world full of grownups and rules and pecking orders, children need to explore, investigate and experiment.

By making characters whose personalities and reactions they control, kids can be in charge in a world of their own creation, to help them make sense of real-life situations. We have seen children in schools beg to stay longer, skip snacks, try to sneak Claymates out. Claymates are like a blank canvas onto which children place clay. (Like paper dolls of years gone by)

Invented in Newton MA, by a father & son duo: musicians, artists, Renaissance-men both. In response to a generation of kids losing touch with authentic social connections in a world of overwhelming distractions from media and technology.

Lovingly hand-turned in Maine, USA. On a lathe in a wood shop that has been in family existence since 1911. Brown walnut and light maple hardwoods.

Montessori approved. In classrooms nationwide. Open-ended play and tactile experiences  with natural materials that encourage children to tap their natural curiosity and express their creativity.

Gender-neutral. More important than ever, Claymates do not presume anything about how a child perceives these figures, or themselves.
